Start with the referral moment

Completion, positive feedback, renewal and a successful review are natural moments because the customer has just experienced value. The request should follow the moment, not an arbitrary monthly campaign.

Ask for an introduction to the kind of person or business you can genuinely help. A specific prompt is easier to answer than asking whether the customer knows 'anyone'.

Treat the introduction with care

Record who introduced whom, respond promptly and thank the referrer without exposing private details. If you use an incentive, explain it clearly and make sure it suits the relationship rather than turning trust into a transaction.

  • Define two or three observable referral moments.
  • Give the team one natural request, not a rigid script.
  • Record permission, the introduction and the next action.
  • Thank the referrer whether or not the opportunity becomes a sale.
